Bazzar RR 1-2-3 Field

Yes, this is a late post of last weeks racing at Bazzar RR.
My first time ever at this event, we hit the town and then headed out to a church, on our way to the church the landscape is beautiful, felt as if I was in europe's country side. tons of flint stones in the side of hills with illustrative green grass cutting edges into hills and mounds.  leading up to the race I was told by Britton and Joe what its been like in the past and what I should think about, meaning what I should do.

So lets just jump into the race it begins slow start, into the 25-30mph, headwind.  There are a few attacks but nothing sticks because you where not going anywhere!  There is a cross wind section about a mile from the cone but Kent Woermen attacked and killed it, a few of us in the middle where in no mans land, Britton, Ryan, Kyle S., and a few others where trying to latch onto the 1st group but they ended up chasing and I was burning matches just trying to bridge up to Britton and never did so I sat up when James and a few others sweep me up and we turn around for the cone but we have 2-3 undiscovered guys with 4-5 in a break so I felt good with no rotation maybe I could get something going if I just attacked now and see who would jump or maybe people would organize themselves.  I went off the front after the cone turn around and was by myself for 5 minutes until James Summers, Ryan, Chris H, started mixing it up got a guy from Mercy - Brian also had Andrew Coe in the lead group but he would hope on the for rotation and did some massive pulls but the undiscovered guys just stayed behind us for ever.  We make it to the turn around point for start/finish, I try again by self to just get a good turn in here and pedal through the wind and I do, I feel good riding in the wind, usually feel OK I can turn the pedal and sink down in the bike to get aero and not suffer and I bridge up to Kyle and a 2 other riders.  By this time the group I was with caught on and we just drag raced the entire time even after the hill we where getting blown into on coming traffic.  Brutal headwind again small crash, something to deal rubbing shoulders-locking handle bars and boom crash.  I wasn't in the crash but people jumped at the opportunity for top 6-10.  We are about 200mm from the finish I some how I'm in the wind with an echo-lodge of 3-4 riders one undiscovered team jumps but its a bluff attack, and we creep up on crocks and gravel in the road enough for 1 wide, roll through it and  I attack here thinking no one wants to put power down on a crap surface, but to much headwind pretty much even though you  could sniff the white line for the finish, i get beat and sit up for 10th place, 3rd overall for Cat III's being a 1-2-3 race.

Tuesday Night Crit

its not the sprint, i dont think.. ADAM KECK!

My First Crit for the year.  Had a large 1-2-3 field.  started for the first lap or two as a social ride a lot of chatting even though 2 guys are up the road, one was a tradewind and a red jersey.  They come back after 2 laps and the race gets underway.  A few digs on the backside after the mini hill that comes after the finish.  I found myself at the mid of the pack and notice Kenny is behind me with a gap so I sit up a bit for him to get on and catch on to some other dudes, there was gap forming and you cant do anything about it when going into the 2nd downhill turn thats more then 90degrees.  I bridge after this when we get some stragglers that are ahead.  Kenny and I work our ways to the front of peloton and stay there he goes off the front and no one digs to break away with him, so I ease my way around to the front to sit up and wait for the attack.  James Summers comes 5-8 Schamlz, few mercy guys and other array of riders.  By this time we bring back Kenny and a 4 man group is formed with myself, Schalmz, Mercy, and a unattached rider.  We get a nice breakaway for more than a lap and I see the peloton closing in not far but they are looming in the background as a shadow would.  I think to myself is this worth working and staying away or should i sit up and i go with sitting up.  I hope on the peloton towards the back and work my way up.  Race from here on I stayed at mid front and out of the wind if I got to close to the front, was saving myself for the field sprint, things got faster but we all kept it together with 1-2 in a corners,  last lap i made sure to stay at the front 8-9th wheel maybe less but after the 2nd turn in game was on with a few people picking up the pase, people where looking around for someone to start the pain train, never came.  Summers few other rides start sprinting and I see a Benn Stover opening a gap and I start my jump and catch him when he already had a large gap on us and told him dont sit up he still can make it and I put my headown after the last turn for the finish and from what I was told I had a large gap on the field for the finish.  More like a football field finish.  I got the heart rate up to 186 hopefully i can get it up to 216 again for sprinting when Summer hits.  I'll look for photos & post of this so called field sprint win!

3-4field finishes, "it hurt, the legs..."

A P R I L

YES, I Agree!

So I road this past monday around the air port to meet and greet my new riding partner... Olive she rides for U20 team she is only 12 well she is getting closer!  Her parents ride bikes and they couldn't keep up with her and they wanted someone that could give her that edge.  as Adem say's POW! we road for hour and and some with 6 laps Olive was solid on the bike we chatted a lot and she kept the pass at 15mph and she would pump it to 17-18mph on the flat.  I was very happy that we got a chance to ride together and I got some text later from the parents that she had nothing but smiles later on that day about getting to ride with someone fast.  I plan on riding with Olive more since her parents want her to ride some more and its fun to help the up and coming!  ill have a photo of Olive and I riding next time.

After that I made it to the Monday ride that started from 39th Volker Shop, had a great turnout with a lady putting down the hammer in some bright pants and helmet to match her style.   Never caught her name but she settle in with us at McCoy's and had some other people tag along made it a great monday night.  I am a bit sad i missed Kickball but there is always next week...
