First blog entry...
Saturday did the Volker Bicycle / Parisi Ride from Union Station that starts at 9am. Was a moderat pase was hoping to see David N, his leg's been acting up. Dont know the details but it seems to have been a problem the last 9 days. Any who the saturday ride got broken up usually around the sprint mark into Bonner Springs before the train tracks. Britton and I went for the sprint while Nate gave us a nice lead-out but I was 2nd wheel Britton 3rd and we both punched it, he came around me and got a good draft and even a 5-8 second coast but that was a bad idea because I had to spin up after that and so Britton kept punching it to the sigh, so i sat up. Seems either ever other week we trade places for the wining the sprint. Legs never feel good on Saturdays even if I get a good spin or ride in on Fridays. I had work at Murray's Ice Cream and got off around 3:50pm and went for another 2.5 hour ride getting at 97 mile ride in on Saturday.
Sunday we did a classic ride to Lawrence the target goal was 100 miles but we ended up getting 87... had a good group out with a stop in lawrence had some rice-treat that had, mix of nuts, and baken that Britton made was good didn't sit well after we put the gas down on the way out of lawrence. I think the Fizz that Hammer Gel makes didn't make the rice sit well + the gel shot that was chocolate with caffeen... Legs felt awesome, but the group broke into two with Britton, Joe, Chris, and myself in one group A and B group with James C, John W, "some guy", and Randel. As the A group kept the pase high I made sure to keep my HR at 140-158 or lower when sitting in waiting for my time in the wind. Even when I hit the wind I made it to 164 and would montoir how I was breathing to lower my HR. I find myself breathing fine at times but when i look at the HR on the Garmin it seems I am doing it all wrong, maybe I need to get back into yoga. Chris dropped off, I noticed he was fading and was trying to pase him back but it seemed that he was toast and just wanted to settle in at his own pase. So it was us three. I still felt good I was very happy to see that Joe was with us but it seemed Britton and him where hurting and I wanted to unleash an attack but I was sitting on Joe's wheel just before it would be my time in the wind and I just knew that britton would just put his headdown and bridge up if that happend so I never did it. Kent W is my coach and he made a note to attack or go all out at the end of the ride to simulate a race after putting in miles. never happend but maybe it did since Joe and Britton got dropped but didn't feel like it since we hit a lot of traffic.
Monday didn't do the ride just played some kickball in roanoke park. Very fun with new/old friends and beer and FUN.
Tuesday. 4hours minium ride posted by coach (Kent) on my TP's account but i ended up doing 6hour ride with 104miles. The weather was good road in the rain every now and then I headed out to Boner Spring and I got rained on, sucked, but everything dried up quickly and my clothing too. Going out to Longview rained again through Swope Park and was soaked. When I hit longview on the backside of the lake the sun came out was a awe moment very awesome and took the rain jacket off because it was hot with the sun beating on you. I hit midtown made a quick stop at broadway caffe for water and made my way to 39th Volker to get 20g protein builder bars 2 that cliff makes; some really good stuff. I also put my bike in the stand and cleaned the chain and lubed up the chain since it was making noise. I made my way out to Boner Springs a 2.5 ride, and back to Downtown stopped at Lulu's dinner to get some soap, drunken noodles and coke-cola got mild heat to get blood circulation rolling for recovery. Maybe my way on the bike to 3rd and Wyandotte to hit up Beardslee to ride home on to westside 21st.
Finished off the ride by cleaning shoes, bike, helmet and clothing and taking a shower.
